Understanding the Étiquette
Bien-Être Animal scheme
Étiquette Bien-Être Animal provides two types of information: the level of animal welfare, on a scale from A to E, and the farming method. The displayed score is based on an annual audit carried out by qualified third-party inspection bodies.
Assessed criteria
for each label level
The Étiquette Bien-Être Animal label assigns a score on a scale from A to E based on the assessment of several hundreds of animal welfare criteria. These criteria cover each animal’s whole life span and include outdoor and natural light access requirements, lifespan, transport time, stunning at slaughter, etc.
Aims of the Étiquette
Bien-Être Animal initiative
The Étiquette Bien-Être Animal label provides consumers with clear, reliable and robust information on the methods under which the animals involved in the making of a food product were farmed, from birth to slaughter, including rearing and transport.
