DISCOVER THE PORK LABEL
The Animal Welfare Label initiative extends to the pork sector!
The technical standard assesses the level of welfare of pigs, from birth to slaughter. The standards and associated requirements are the result of a joint project involving all players in the industry (producers, processors, distributors, animal protection NGOs). It is also based on a number of external consultations (experts, equipment manufacturers, technical institutes, etc.) and on white audits carried out in the field to ensure that it is operational and relevant.
311 specific criteria are evaluated, including result indicators that can be directly observed on the animals.
- 22 criteria are evaluated on the parents (gestation of the sow)
- 39 criteria assess the maternity stage
- 23 criteria assess the post-weaning stage
- 42 criteria for fattening pigs
- 185 criteria for transport and slaughtering
WHAT REQUIREMENTS LIE BEHIND THE PORK LABEL?
Each year, 100% of the structures involved in the approach (farms, groups and abattoirs) are audited by independent bodies and qualified auditors.
The assessment is specific to the pig industry, and cannot be transposed identically to assess the level of animal welfare in any other industry.
